Mama And “The Kids”
About two months ago, my daughter and her dog Mama moved in with me. Now the house has three Chihuahuas and one Staffordshire Terrier. Her name is Mama and is the most wonderful dog you could ever have. She is potty trained, doesn’t dig in the yard, doesn’t tear up furniture, and is really loveable. She only has one problem….
Mam thinks she is a little dog and wants to play with Jonesy, Sissy and Tinky. She has good intentions but gets a little rough for three Chihuahuas. She play bows with her ears up, barks and then bats at them with her paws. She loves to take a flying leap and chase them. When she gets to them, she pounces. One time she jumped up on the couch and nuzzled Tinky with her nose and threw her off the couch which landed Tinky on the floor. Other than that, they get along just great. Although Jonesy, Tinky and Sissy keep a steady eyeball on her at all times.
In order for Jonesy, Sissy and Tinky to be able to go outside and get a little exercise and sunshine, I have to keep Mama indoors and close the sliding glass door.
Here is a picture of Mama and “The Kids”. She wants to go outside and play. With the door closed, they feel really safe.
“NANNER NANNER NANNER…CAN’T GET ME!
LOOK AT THIS FACE….SHE’S JUST A WIDDLE PUPPY THAT CAN DO NO HARM.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how we can keep Mama from pouncing on the dogs. We have tried rattling soda cans with pennies in it and she does stop. She tends to forget and will do it again. She’s five years old, but thinks she’s a small puppy. HELP!
I FOUND A YOUTUBE VIDEO. THIS COULD BE MAMA AND JONESY!
NOW WHY CAN’T THEY PLAY LIKE THIS?
HEY…DONTCHA THINK IT MIGHT JUST BE THREE CHIHUAHUAS WITH ATTATOOOOODS?

I think that the dogs are scared of Mama and dont want to play with her because the kids are babied too much and they are insecure. All Mama wants is to be friends with the chihuahuas. She thinks they are toys. nothing wrong with that. LOL

Well, we have the same problem. Sunny just doesn’t realize the size differece. They have lived together for 7 years-all Sunny’ life. In most cases she is gentle, but in play, or doing zoomies in the yard, she may inadvertantly send him winding. He knows when to hit the perimeter of the yard when zoomies start. But they always play supervised and when tey are left alone in the house, Scooter is gated in the kitchen. Just one of those things…Mama will probably learn not to chase them if y’all keep at it.

Trixie also plays too rough with little dogs — we’ve never been able to figure out a good way to stop her so we just don’t let her do it anymore.
In the hoodie picture, Mama looks like she may be beckoning Little Red Riding Hood to come closer!

Wish I could help there. Our big dog is gentle but she is old, not many zoomies left in her. I don’t know if there is a way to teach her to play gently. I don’t think they realize the size difference. Mama sure is a pretty color.

Ziggy and I play more like the 2nd video. That first You-Tube dawg looks like Petey from the Little Rascals without the circle around his eye! My mom says we’re lucky that we all (including the cats) get along so well.

Oh I wish I could help. The penny idea sounds pretty good. Maybe a water bottle squirt would help in the same way as the penny’s??? I don’t have to worry about Chloe playing too rough with little dogs because she is scared to death of anything smaller than her. Not sure why, but it is funny!

Hey I’m back blogging at WordPress. http://tonyintaz.wordpress.com
Facebook proved more time consuming than blogging.

I can tell by the first picture Tinky is very nervous. Once Cliff brought a stray home until he could get it a home (a lab puppy) and the chi’s were horrified and the pup played too rough with them.
I think if a squirt bottle was used EVERY time Mama got too rough it might eventually work. Mama is so adorable! That hoodie is a hoot.

Yes….chihuahua’s with attitude! Just ask me, Rambo the chi. All chihuahua’s have attitude. We can’t help it. My g-pop calls it “little dog syndrome”, but I think “attitude” sounds tougher.
